Foundations of Tactical Mastery – Defense (Scottsdale – 70th St & Shea)

Location: Chess Emporium – 70th St & Shea (Scottsdale)

This module of Foundations of Tactical Mastery w/ Coach Ben Vinyard (USCF 1859) focuses on defense: how to stay calm under pressure, avoid blunders, and save difficult positions.

Stay calm under pressure and defend like a master.

  • How to avoid blunders before they happen
  • Principles of active defense and counterattack
  • Spotting the opponent’s threats quickly and accurately
  • What we can learn from how neural networks defend

Dates (5 Sundays)

Sundays: April 12, April 19, April 26, May 3, May 17, 2026
No class on May 10 (Mother’s Day).

Tuition & Discounts

$349 for this 5-week module.
10% discount if you purchase any 2 of the 3 modules (Calculation, Attacking, Defense).
20% discount if you purchase all 3.
