Foundations of Tactical Mastery – Calculation (Scottsdale – 70th St & Shea)

Day & Time: Sundays, 1:00–3:00 PM
Location: Chess Emporium – 70th St & Shea (Scottsdale)

This module of Foundations of Tactical Mastery w/ Coach Ben Vinyard (USCF 1859) focuses on calculation and disciplined thinking at the board. Designed for intermediate students (800–1400 USCF, with exceptions), each class includes instruction, puzzles, and minigames with prizes.

Learn to see deeper and calculate with confidence.

  • Identifying and using forcing moves
  • Understanding the biggest mistakes players make in calculation
  • Recognizing and executing petite combinations
  • Using comparison to choose between candidate moves
  • Applying the process of elimination to find the best move

Dates (5 Sundays)

Sundays: January 11, January 25, February 1, February 8, February 22, 2026
No class on January 18 (MLK weekend) or February 15 (Presidents’ Day weekend).

Tuition & Discounts

$349 for this 5-week module.
10% discount if you purchase any 2 of the 3 modules (Calculation, Attacking, Defense).
20% discount if you purchase all 3.
